George Michael’s iconic ‘Careless Whisper’ turns 40 years old

George Michael Entertainment celebrate the 40th year of Careless Whisper and announce a forthcoming EP.

George Michael is known as one of the biggest superstars of the 1980s, as one half of pop duo WHAM! and as a chart topping solo artist. This year Careless Whisper is celebrating its 40th anniversary, with it being released in July 1984.

Back in 1984, Careless Whisper soared to the top of the charts in over 25 countries and is currently certified 7x Platinum in the US. The song was written when George Michael was just 17 years old, along with WHAM! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley, and even saw him win an Ivor Novello Award at the age of 21, the youngest ever recipient.

To commemorate the special anniversary, George Michael Entertainment have teamed up with Sony Music to release the Careless Whisper EP this October. The EP will feature a never heard before performance of the song at New York’s Madison Square Garden from when George performed there in 2008.

The EP will also include an extended mix of Careless Whisper, an instrumental version and newly mastered versions. It will be available on digital and physical formats, catering for all old and new fans.

George Michael Entertainment says:

As we celebrate 40 years of Careless Whisper, we are proud to share something truly special with George’s millions of fans around the world. This EP is a heartfelt ‘thank you’ from us to you for your unwavering support and love. We are truly grateful. Thank you.
