“This is a really special one for us”: Big Time Rush tell us all about their upcoming tour and new music

Big Time Rush spoke with us about their upcoming tour, new music and potential future events with the Jonas Brothers.

Big Time Rush are set to embark on a massive world tour later this year, with extra European dates already being added due to high demand. ‘Big Time Rush In Real Life Worldwide’ will take Kendall, James, Logan and Carlos quite literally all over the globe performing all of the hits from their Nickelodeon TV show. Take a look at all of the Europe dates below, including the new dates.

The four-piece first shot to fame all the way back in 2009 as part of the Nickelodeon TV show Big Time Rush. The show led Kendall, James, Logan and Carlos to become a band outside of the show and they have gone from success to success ever since. In 2014 they disbanded, then briefly reunited in 2020 to celebrate 10 years of their hit Worldwide, before officially reuniting in 2021 and releasing a brand new album, Another Life, in 2023.

This upcoming tour they will be playing every song from every episode of their show, which all of their fans will obviously enjoy. Katelyn Tarver and Stephen Kramer Glickman, who both appeared on the show, will also be joining the band on tour making it extra special.

Big Time Rush squeezed me into their busy schedule to chat all about their tour, how they feel about coming back to the UK, what it was like performing at Jonas Con and new music. Yes, you heard that right! New music!

Firstly, this is really exciting news about your tour. I loved the way that you announced it with the video, it was so cool. I looked through the list of dates and it looks never-ending, you are all going to be exhausted by the end of this year. How are you all feeling about it?

Kendall [K] – Exhausted just thinking about it!

Logan [L] – There’s a lot of work to be done. Very excited but there is a lot of work to still be done. I think we’re anxious and ready to get into it.

It’s still super exciting though! You are singing songs that you’ve never performed live before. How are you feeling about that?

James [J] – Exciting is one way to put it. Nerve-wracking and we have a tonne of lyrics to learn is another way to think about it. No, we are excited. We’ve played a lot of the same songs hundreds of times in concert so it’s definitely going to add an element of new excitement and the unknown. I know it’s going to be exciting for the fans but it will be refreshing for us as well.

Are there songs that you are looking forward to performing most? Maybe ones that you haven’t sung live before?

K – I’m trying to think of songs that we’ve never ever done before.

L – We probably each have a different one.

K – There’s a song called Oh Yeah.

J – Oh yeah there is.

K – I don’t think we’ve ever done it live and I think it’s because we’ve chosen to skip it. So there’s songs that we’ve been like “oh let’s not do that one [as] it doesn’t fit the vibe of the tour” and that’s one of them.

L – That one’s a classic, it’s going to be great. I’ll still love performing that depending on how we reimagine it or if we do acoustic, that one is always a lot of fun.

Did you ever think that 16 years down the line from when you were first on your Nickelodeon show that you’d still be singing those songs in 2025?

Carlos [C] – That was the hope. Like look at bands like NSYNC those boys are still going. We’re so blessed that we get to do this over and over and over again. Especially Europe because we didn’t really do any big Europe dates back in the day. Not like these types of tours so this is a really special one for us.

I saw that you’re playing Wembley over here in the UK which is mad as that’s such a special and prestigious place, I mean everybody wants to play a show at Wembley so that’s amazing.

Will you be singing any of your new songs from your 2023 album ‘Another Life’?

L – I think we’ve got to fit a couple of new songs in there just for our sanity as well. I think it would be nice. We spent a lot of time on that album and those songs are pretty special to us. Any way we can bring some of those in, and especially maybe mix them up at each date we play, that might be nice.

J – There’s quite a few songs from Another Life that we still haven’t played yet. We haven’t picked them yet but I am certainly going to fight for a few off that album that we haven’t played yet.

You’ve got to throw some of the new songs in there too and mix it up a little bit!

K – And we’re planning new music anyway so there’s going to be a lot of squeezing.

Is the new music an exclusive?

K – Yeah kind of, we haven’t really talked about it. We feel like even though this tour is more focused around the TV show, we are a band and it hurts us inside if we don’t have new music as it’s just something we have to do. We think the fans are more than open to receiving this tour and also new music. I don’t think anyone is going to have any problems with it.

Nobody will object to that I’m sure. Is there anywhere in particular that you are really looking forward to visiting on this tour?

J – Well you said it, Wembley is up there. Wembley has always been one of those places, like Madison Square Garden, they’re such epic places that we’ve always wanted to play. It’s so cool even talking about it and saying it outloud that we’ll be playing there.

I also saw that you guys attended Jonas Con a few weeks ago. I think quite similarly of yourselves and the Jonas Brothers, as in you had a similar route to fame and have such loyal fanbases. How was performing there? Would you ever do anything similar to Jonas Con? Maybe a BTR Con?

C – They were a bit before us and they’ve really just paved the way for a lot of people so I give them a lot of credit and thanks because they’re incredible. They have a great team that knows how to do these really fun events. I mean we recently just did Big Time Rush on ice.

How was that?

C – Oh, it was awesome! I was telling Joe, Kevin and Nick about it and they were like “you guys did what?”. Bro, we skated and we sang! They were actually really impressed.

It is impressive – it sounds brilliant!

C – Maybe we do more!

J – We’ve got a couple more ideas up our sleeves for things that we’ve always wanted to do in the event space so there’s certainly going to be more.

K – One of which is we’ve always dreamed of a Big Time Rush cruise.

A cruise would be fantastic!

K – Carlos is a cruise fanatic and so it’d be a combination. The best of both worlds.

L – Have Jonas done a cruise yet?

K – No!

I don’t think they have, you guys would be the first.

L – We could carve out our own little space in the cruise world.

K – We’re just trying to find a way to play concerts and have a vacation at the same time.

J – Exactly. How about we have a Jonas cruise and a BTR cruise with a bridge that goes across?

K – The Big Time Jonas cruise!

C – That sounds crazy.

I think a lot of people would absolutely love that!

C – I’m looking and I don’t think they’ve ever done a cruise.

Big Time Rush needs to start with the cruise!

J – It started here, Georgia inspired it!

Also the 4th April has just been which has of course officially been declared as Big Time Rush Day. What is it like having a full day dedicated to you and your fanbase? It’s pretty cool.

L – It’s crazy.

J – It’s like an honour.

K – Yeah, sometimes the stuff that happens is just wild. I also love that a declaration that was made in Minnesota has now been declared worldwide. It’s fun and it’s something to celebrate the relationship we have with our fans and how we’ve gotten to be at this point. Big Time Rush brings a lot of people joy so if anything it’s a joy day. Everyone can celebrate.

We know you’ve already announced the tour for this year but is there anything else that your fans can look forward to?

L – Like we said we’re working on new music. We’ve been in the studio and we’ve been really focused on working on that new music. We’ve got a lot of ideas for stuff coming up. I think James you mentioned earlier today that we’re talking about a movie.

J – We’re working on it. I think more immediately something we can say will happen we’re looking to expand this tour into even more countries. So as soon as we have things locked down, we can announce them. I hate to tease it but I do want to let fans know all over the world that we are trying to get everywhere where the fans are asking us to go.

That’s super exciting, I know they will be pleased to hear that. Is there anything else you’d like to add or say to the fans, maybe specifically the UK ones?

L – I’m so excited for the UK. I’ve wanted to play Wembley or close to it for a long time. I think it just shows how much better it gets every time we go on tour, especially making fans and continuing to grow in the UK. It’s a special thing and we hope to go over there for a long time.
