Tom Felton admits he “shed a tear” before revealing he’s reprising Draco Malfoy

Tom Felton will be reprising his role of Draco Malfoy later this year, on Broadway, in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

It was announced last week that Tom Felton will be reprising his role as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, on Broadway. The play will mark Tom’s Broadway debut, but will see him step into the familiar shoes of the character he made famous in the Harry Potter series.

Tom Felton brought Draco Malfoy to life in all eight of the Harry Potter films, between the years of 2001 and 2011. After almost fifteen years, he is now returning to the role, this time on stage. He will be the first and only (so far!) member of the original Harry Potter cast to star in the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child theatre production.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been in production on Broadway since 2018 and has been running in London’s West End since 2016. The play is set 19 years after the final Harry Potter book/film ends, and focuses on Harry’s son (Albus) and Draco’s son (Scorpius) becoming friends at Hogwarts. They time-travel and attempt to change the past, which leads to unforeseen circumstances.

Although this will be Tom’s Broadway debut, he has previously starred in 2:22 A Ghost Story in London’s West End and most recently A Child of Science at Bristol’s Old Vic theatre. So he is no stranger to the stage and a live audience.

After announcing the exciting news, Tom attended the 78th Tony Awards in New York City and spoke of how “surreal” it feels to be reprising his role as Draco. He even admitted to Access Hollywood that he “shed a tear” when trying on the character’s iconic blonde wig.

Tom will star in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre in New York City for 19 weeks only, starting from 11th November 2025.

General tickets are released on 12th June and can be purchased here. Brb while we book a flight over to NYC!
