Sam Fender’s arena tour last year raised over £100k for grassroots music venues, the money has benefited multiple venues nationally.
Last year, Sam Fender took to arena stages up and down the country showcasing his People Watching album that was yet to be released at the time. Funds from that arena tour have now helped to support up to 38 grassroots music venues around the UK.
Sam Fender contributed £1 from every ticket sold to support the venues. The 2024 arena tour managed to rack up an impressive £100k+.
The Music Venue Trust are the ones who began the campaign to support UK grassroots music venues. The campaign came after the Trust revealed in 2023 that 125 grassroots music venues in the UK had to close.
The money was distributed recently, via Lifeline Fund. The venues that have been reported to have benefitted from this funding are Sub Club in Glasgow, Paper Dress Vintage in London and The White Hotel in Manchester. In Sam’s beloved North East region, the money has helped Little Buildings, NE Volume Music Bar & Venue, and The Globe. It is said that the money has helped to support 38 venues.
Speaking to The Music Venue Trust, Sam Fender said:
It’s brilliant to see that the money raised from the arena tour is making a real difference to so many venues. The grassroots circuit has been decimated over the last 10 years or so and the idea that money from shows in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense. These places are legendary.
